Narrator Hugh Bonneville's rich and melodious voice makes for easy listening. His even-keel narration takes Paddington bear's adventures in stride--whether he's tailoring trousers with his vintage sewing machine, taking dancing lessons, repairing a car, doing detective work, or carrying out equestrian exploits. He may exasperate his family and Mrs. Bird, the housekeeper, but he delights them all the same. Bonneville's British accent is perfect for the Brown household. His narration is a bit understated and a bit tongue-in-cheek. Each episode moves along at a clipped pace. He uses pauses for dramatic effect and moves easily between varied voices for Paddington's supporting cast. Listeners will relish the adventures and surely want to listen again. In these reissues, the amiable bear from "Darkest Peru" is as endearing as ever. The old-fashioned, episodic stories work well as family read-alouds; each chapter is a complete adventure. The humor is broad, and Fortnum's loose ink sketches place Paddington smack in the middle of every mess.
