Charleston, SC, debutante Tara Faulkner, who had dreamed of marrying her childhood friend and neighbor Seth Grissom since she was 15, finds her fantasy wedding plans imploding when she stumbles upon Seth indulging in his secret addiction. As Tara peels away the layers of deceit, she begins to form quite a different picture of the man she loves. Her hurt and sense of betrayal is compounded when she realizes that those closest to her kept Seth's secret from her. Tara finds solace and unexpected support after an impetuous decision results in her working at the local cafe, but her transition from sheltered Southern belle to a strong, independent woman doesn't happen overnight. Filled with doubt about God's presence in her life, Tara finds comfort with a priest, Ned, who gently guides her into seeking Christ as a guide in determining what her life should become. VERDICT The coauthors of The Merciful Scar and Sarah's Choice offer a bittersweet look at how betrayal and hurt can morph into strength and hope if we allow ourselves to be open to divine intervention and the support of others. Richly developed characters and an engaging plot result in a compelling read that will stay with readers long after the book is finished. Recommended for fans of Francine Rivers and patrons seeking an inspirational story of sorrow, strength, and the power of faith.
