        According to Pinchefsky, geeks are prime small-business owners. They know the market, and they love to learn new things. Though she doesn't promise the secrets to a full-time, health insurance-providing income, she guides ""geektrepreneurs"" through the basics of starting a small, fandom-related business. First, she goes into the basics of working with intellectual property (IP), both original and created by others, including how to get an IP license, with a sample proposal included. She also covers issues that pertain to any small business (regulations, bookkeeping, marketing, etc.) but peppers each point with examples from geeky businesses, from game developers to cosplayers to steampunk tea makers. She also offers fandom-specific advice: choosing the right convention to attend, setting up a crowdfunding campaign, monetizing content on YouTube or Twitch. The writing style is lively and spiced with geeky pop culture references, and nothing is sugar-coated as business owners share lessons learned from hard mistakes.
