Honestly, I'm ready to take a step back from the Subs Club. Making the kink world a safer place for subs is the sort of bandwagon I'd have boarded as an idealist in my early twenties, but now I'm a pragmatist in my late twenties. I prefer to focus on adopting and raising a child.

But unexpected factors inevitably derail my plans. Like Drix Seger — attractive and the first genuine sadist I've encountered. If I were not in the process of renouncing my masochistic ways and becoming the normal, responsible potential father the adoption agency wants to see, Drix and I might do well together.

But he has a foolish name and belongs to a cult of vampyres, and I am quitting kink. So why does Drix's infatuation with blood and biting make me so hot I can't think straight? And why, when he looks at me, does he seem to see something beyond a basket case with a stick up my ass?

Can I start a new phase in my life without leaving part of myself behind? Please send help.

Rock’s gripping, challenging second Subs Club BDSM erotic novel (after The Subs Club) is not for the faint of heart, but its extreme kink elements that will enthrall hardcore readers. Devoted masochist Miles Loucks is the consummate type A personality: emotionally withdrawn, anxious, and an obsessive perfectionist. He’s got an extremely detailed multiyear plan for achieving his dream of becoming a father, and it includes giving up kink so he’ll be permitted to adopt. But when sadist Hendrix Seger walks into Miles’s T-shirt business to pick up an order, that plan goes out the window. The attraction is mutual, immediate, and earthshaking. However, both men have big secrets. Miles is into an extreme amount of pain, and Drix enjoys playing the part of a vampire, complete with sharp teeth and a taste for blood. How can they match up their kinks and build a relationship without threatening Miles’s plans? Rock’s characters are beautifully drawn (including Miles’s hilarious friends in the Subs Club), and the underlying theme of wanting to find unconditional love is easy to identify with. The vividness and severity of the pain play and the vampirism may be a struggle for some readers, but those who have been longing to see a compassionate portrayal of these two subcultures will be over the moon.

Miles Loucks, founder of the Subs Club, dedicated to making the kink community safer for submissives, is leaving the scene for good. At least that's what he keeps telling himself; respectable parents don't engage in BDSM, and Miles is ready to do whatever it takes to become the perfect father for his future adopted child. Until he meets Hendrix Seger, a soft-spoken sadist with purple eyes and pointed teeth who changes Miles's whole relationship to pain. While Drix and Miles have incredible sex, and incredible play, there's something deeper lurking beneath the surface of their scenes that Miles has never before experienced. But will being kinky kill his chance to be a father? Simultaneously hot and humorous, Rock's writing deftly buoys the novel's heavier elements (e.g., graphic scenes of erotic torture) with the wry wit and relatable concerns of its quirky characters. Miles has a nuanced life as a man deep into kink who is also a business owner with healthy friendships and aspirations to build a family. VERDICT This well-penned hard-core erotic tale blends sweet romance with a refreshingly comprehensive depiction of the kink lifestyle. Recommended for series fans and readers seeking m/m erotica on the edgy side.
