Vaux On His Own Small Parks, Manhattan (1887–1888) • Some 20 years after Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux submitted their Greensward plan for what would become Central Park, Vaux was appointed to New York City’s Department of Public Parks. There he set to work on a plan for creating new public space in the city’s dense downtown neighborhoods. In this excerpt from Calvert Vaux, Landscape Architect, Francis R.
