A seductive thief

Lady's maid Molly Wilkins is done with thieving—and cheating and stabbing and all the rest of it. She's determined to keep her hands to herself, so she really shouldn't be tempted to seduce her employer's prim and proper companion, Alice. But how can she resist when Alice can't seem to keep her eyes off Molly?

Finds her own heart

For the first time in her life, Alice Stapleton has absolutely nothing to do. The only thing that seems to occupy her thoughts is a lady's maid with a sharp tongue and a beautiful mouth. Her determination to know Molly's secrets has her behaving in ways she never imagined as she begins to fall for the impertinent woman.

Has been stolen

When an unwelcome specter from Alice's past shows up unexpectedly at a house party, Molly volunteers to help the only way she knows how: with a little bit of mischief.

Alice Stapleton worked hard caring for her drunkard father at the vicarage. Now, as a companion to Mrs. Wraxhall, she enjoys a position of relative leisure, though she's certain the lady's maid is hiding something nefarious, stealing out of the house at odd hours. Molly Wilkins has led a difficult life, coming clean from her days as a thief. If only Alice would stop watching her every move. Discovering a secret from Molly's past, Alice realizes her judgements about Molly were unfounded, and ultimately the two give in to their mutual desire for each other. When it's revealed that Alice's family has wronged her, the mischievous Molly comes up with a plan for payback for the man who got Alice banished from her home. VERDICT Sebastian crafts another enormously fun, sexy romp that is also touching, with two heroines who make each other better together than they were alone. This latest entry in the "Turner" series (after The Ruin of a Rake) stands on its own and will make readers wish for more about the winsome duo. Highly recommended.--Eve Stano, Ball State Univ. Muncie, IN

Narrator Morag Sims perfectly captures the outspoken lady's maid and meek vicar's daughter at the center of this delightful romance with just the right amount of mischief. Sweet-voiced Alice has been saved from ruin by the kindly Mrs. Wraxhall and is now adjusting to her new home. She is drawn to Molly, a charmingly forward maid with a subtle Cockney accent and a deep voice. At first, nothing comes of their mutual attraction, but when they depart for a house party and find that they are to share a room, their wariness melts away. And when Alice is horrified to discover that the snootily voiced brute who caused her near ruin is expected at the house party, she and Molly concoct a scheme to reclaim what was lost.
