Kilmeny of the Orchard tells a love story between a young man named Eric Marshall who goes to teach a school on Prince Edward Island and a mute girl Kilmeny. He comes across her one day in the orchard and then they fall in love with each other. However, Kilmeny rejects his proposal for she believed that her disability will hinder his life if they live together. Finally, he wins her love.
