Scott Brick delivers straightforward narration in the audio edition of this latest thriller from Cussler and Scott that follows the adventures of detective Isaac Bell during the early 20th century. This time around, Bell is aboard the British ocean liner Mauretania, heading home to the United States, when an attempt is made to kidnap two European scientists. Bell’s timely intervention forestalls the crime, but, of course, things don’t remain calm, and the powers behind the attempted abduction try again. Brick shines in his creation of European accents for the supporting cast and appropriately adjusts his pacing for the book’s inevitable action sequences. Cussler and Scott are veteran suspense writers, and Brick—a seasoned narrator—proves their equal in this entertaining audiobook. A Putnam hardcover.
