A vampire held captive plots his escape with the help of an irresistible woman in the New York Times bestselling author's scorching hot paranormal romance.
Ryder Duncan keeps his secrets close. With a twisted scientist starving him in a ten-by-twelve cell, it's not easy to conceal the abilities that set him apart from other vampires, or his plans for escape. But survival—and revenge—are worth waiting for. Until the so-called doctor tempts his appetites with something special: a woman with a soft Southern accent and a scent like delectable flowers.
Sabine Acadia didn't volunteer to be dinner. She was kidnapped and tossed into the cage of a monster. A monster with fierce green eyes, a body that speaks of ruthless power, and a touch as gentle as a caress. Ryder knows things about Sabine—secrets she doesn't even know about herself. And she'd better learn fast. Because while they might soon escape this prison, she's fighting an urge to set all her desires free . . .

Eden’s second Phoenix Fire paranormal (after Burn for Me) continues with sex scenes that elevate the otherwise unexceptional characterization. Vampire Ryder Duncan has been captured by the Genesis Group for military experimentation. After months of starvation, he nearly kills the woman they give him to feed from, only to be astonished when her body spontaneously combusts and she revives unharmed. Sabine Acadia is furious, with no memory of dying and completely unaware of her abilities until Ryder clues her in. Despite Sabine’s apparent immortality, the pain of death and side effect of amnesia has her desperate to stay alive—so Ryder turns her into a vampire, foreshadowing more interesting developments that never quite materialize. A rather standard adrenaline-driven romance follows, with sex scenes that surprisingly have more fire than the characters themselves. The twisting betrayals and complicated intrigue are summarily taken care of, making this installment less satisfying than the first.
